Directions:

To arrive to West Point from Sacramento, take CA-16 east for 45 miles to Ridge Rd in Sutter Creek. Follow Ridge Rd to CA-88 E in Pine Grove for 8 miles, Slight left onto CA-88 East for 4 miles. Follow State Rte 26 W to West Point in 8 miles.

Notes:

The MF and SF Mokelumne are part of the Upper Mokelumne Watershed which includes the North Fork Mokelumne and the Main Mokelumne down to the Hwy 49 Bridge. The MF and SF Mokeumne make up about one third of that watershed. The name “Mokelumne” is a Native American term from the Miwok tribe meaning people of the fishnet. Most of the Mokelumne above Hwy 49 at Jackson contains small Browns and Rainbows in the 8″ to 14″ class.

The MF and SF Mokelumne is primarily at lower elevations from 4000 to 1500′ elevation. Much of this watershed is within private ownership and access is difficult. The area has a long history of both mining and logging. Much of the SF and MF Mokelumne are within the Mother Lode region of gold-bearing quartz veins. The area also has numerous logging roads, many which have locked gates. Usually, the landowners do allow access to fish the many small creeks of the area. This region also can have a lot of snow run-off until July. After July, the pools show up well and it is quite fishable. Rainbows are planted within streams near campgrounds but large wild browns come up the river and hold within the pools.

Schaads Reservoir: (55 acres) Stocked with about 9,000 pan-size Rainbow trout each year. Can use float tubes or canoes. From Jackson, go south on Hwy 49 to Mokelumne Hill. Turn left on Highway 26 and drive 14 miles to Associate Office Road. Continue 1.1 miles onto Blue Mountain Road and continue for3.2 miles to Schaad Road going 1.6 miles to the reservoir.

South Fork Mokelumne River:

From the last Saturday in April through November 15, five trout daily bag limit, 10 trout in possession; and, from November 16 through the Friday preceding the last Saturday in April, 0 trout bag limit, artificial lures with barbless hooks only and trout must be released unharmed and not removed from the water.

Lakes and Reservoirs:

Open all year. No restrictions. 5 trout per day. 10 trout in possession.

All creeks and tributaries:

From the last Saturday in April through November 15, five trout daily bag limit, 10 trout in possession; and, from November 16 through the Friday preceding the last Saturday in April, 0 trout bag limit, artificial lures with barbless hooks only and trout must be released unharmed and not removed from the water.
