Tying Instructions
1. Attach the Stinger hook to the vise and secure the thread behind the eye. Lay a thread foundation to the bend of the hook. Wrap the thread back towards the eye a short distance.
2. Cut off 6-7 strands of Fire Tiger Flashabou and fit the center of the strands to the thread.
3. Secure the strands to the top of the hook shank.
4. Wrap back to the bend of the hook securing the strands to the top of the shank
5.Place a couple of thread wraps under the strands to keep them from fouling the hook.
6. Trim the strands to about 1.5 times the hook shank length
7. Next, secure the Polar Chenille to the side of the shank at the bend of the hook.
8. Wrap the thread up to the 3/4 position on the shank.
9. Wrap the chenille forward to the 3/4 position and secure with some tight thread wraps. Trim off the tag end of the chenille.
10. Secure the end of the rabbit strip to the shank just in front of the chenille.
11. The fur should face the bend of the hook when wrapped.
12. Wrap the strip twice around the shank and secure the tag end behind the eye with some tight thread wraps.
13. Apply some additional thread wraps around the base of the strip without crowding the eye.
14. Select a Mallard Flank that is symmetrical with the stem centered on the flank feather. Trim off the lower fibers to achieve the proper size. You want the flank feather to cover the length of the rabbit fur.
15. Attach the flank feather to the top of the hook shank behind the eye. Trim off the tag end of the quill stem.
16. Apply a Whip Finish and trim off the thread.
17. Fit a connection wire through the eye.
18. And place a bead through both ends of the wire. This completes the rear portion of the pattern.
19. Attach the front hook to the Vise. I am using a Daiichi 2220 4XL Streamer hook. Secure the thread to the 3/4 position of the hook. This will help you mark the space needed for the head.
20. Lay a thread foundation to the bend of the hook.
21. Secure the rear hook connecting wire to the top of the front hook shank. The wire loop behind the bead should be about the width as the bead itself. And, the loop should be vertical or in the same plane as the bend of the hook.
22. Secure the tag ends of the wire forward on the shank. Bend the ends of the wire back and wrap these with tight thread turns finishing at the bend of the hook.
23. Wrap the thread forward a short distance and secure a second group of Fire Tiger Flashabou, in the same procedure as the rear hook, to the top of the hook shank.
24. These strands are trimmed over the 3/4 length of the Flank Feather.
25. Place a few thread wraps under the flashabou fibers to keep them from fouling the hook.
26. Attach a rabbit strip to the shank in front of the strands with the fur flowing back when wrapped.
27. Make two wraps of the rabbit and secure with some tight thread wraps.
28. Trim off the tag end of the strip and wrap the thread around the base of the strip securing the material to the hook shank.
29. Attach a polar chenille to the shank in front of the rabbit strip.
Optional: Some tiers will secure a fly rattle to the top to the shank in front of the rabbit strip and cover the rattle with the chenille.
Wrap the chenille up to the 3/4 position and secure with a couple of thread wraps. Trim off the tag end.
30. Attach a third set of Flashabou strands to the top of the shank at the 3/4 position.
31. Trim the strands so the length just reaches the bead.
32. Select a couple of Mallard Flank feathers for the sides. Trim off the fibers so that the length of the flank just reaches the bead.
33. Turn the pattern over and secure the second flank feather on the opposing side.
34. Turning the pattern back, secure a rabbit strip to the 3/4 position.
35. Wrap two turns and secure with tight thread wraps.
36. Trim off the tag end of the rabbit strip and secure with thread wraps at the base of the strip.
37. Clip off a clump of deer hair and even the tips in a stacker.
38. Place the bundle of deer hair with the tips covering about half of the rabbit fur length at the top of the shank.
39. Place two thread wraps around the deer hair bundle.
40. Holding the tips in place, pull upwards with the thread and secure with 3-4 more tight thread wraps.
41. Still holding the tips, use your other hand and push the hair back against the tips.
42. Place a few tight thread wraps in front of the hair behind the hook eye.
43. Select another clump of deer hair. You won’t need to even the tips but you will need to trim off both ends of the bundle so that the bundle is about 1/2 inch long.
44. Place the bundle in front of the first stacked deer hair and apply two loose thread wraps.
45. Lift upwards with the thread to spin the hair around the shank. Secure with a couple more tight thread wraps within the hair.
46. Use a hair packer to push the hair against the stacked hair. You should have enough room for a third bundle of deer hair.
47. Clip off a third bundle of deer hair. Trim off both ends for a bundle that is about 1/2 inch.
48. Place the bundle on top of the shank behind the eye and apply two loose thread wraps.
49. Pulling the thread upwards, spin the third bundle of hair and secure with a couple of tight thread wraps. Push the hair back away from the eye.
50. Use a half hitch tool to apply 2-3 hitches.
51. Apply a Whip Finish and trim off the thread.
52. We want to make a wedge shaped head. Start with the top and use a razor blade at an upward angle from the eye of the hook towards the tips of the deer hair. Don’t cut the tips, just the hair that is in front of it at an upward angle.
53. Now for the bottom. Turn the pattern over and trim the hair horizontally from the eye to the rabbit fur.
54. The sides should be an angled cut. Don’t cut those deer hair tips.
55. Cutting the second side. Spend some time doing a final trim of hair. The final product should be an uplifted wedge-shaped head. This is what makes the pattern bob and weave through the water.
56. Lets put some eyes on the head. Use some Super Glue Gel with a dab on the side of the head.
57. Place the eye on the side of the head with tweezers. Don’t use your fingers. Glue on your fingers will discolor the eye.
58. Now, do the other side with a dab of Gel Glue.
59. Place the other eye with the tweezer.
60. Protect the head and the eyes with a coating of Thin Loon Fly Finish.
61. Cure the finish with a UV light.
62. The finished Mini Drunk and Disorderly, Fire Tiger. The total length is about 3.25 inches.

Tommy Lynch
The Mini Drunk & Disorderly fly pattern is an articulated streamer with lots of flash and a distinctive wedge shaped deer hair head. It was designed by Tommy Lynch. Due to the erratic diving and fluttering motion, the pattern can be successful with many trout and bass species. The wedge-shaped deer hair head defines this pattern. It’s inspiration comes from conventional bass lures like the Rapala. If the pattern is retrieved with quick, sharp strips, it will dive and dart with a zig-zag motion.
This fly should be used with a sinking line or sink-tip line. It works best around structure like undercut banks, logs, and weed beds, anywhere that predatory fish hang out for an ambush.
The deer hair head is tied somewhat loosely but firmly packed to give it shape when sculpted with the razor blade. A generous coating of Loon Flow Fly Finish will help to retain and stiffen the deer hair shape. There is a lot of flash with this pattern with both flashabou and polar chenille within the body. Rabbit strips are also incorporated as collars to provide both body and weight from the water-soaked fur. It is important to allow enough room on the front hook to create the proper head. Tommy often attached a plastic rattle to the front section but this is optional.
