Ostrich Plume (OST) from Hareline is, essentially, the same feather as their 10-12″ Ostrich Herl (OH) . When Hareline bought Spirit River, the “Big Bird” Ostrich Plume (OST) was a major item within their line of materials. It is a premium, versatile feather widely favored in fly tying for its incredible mobility, fullness, and soft fibers. The “Big Bird” Ostrich Plume does tend to have a heavier central stem with longer and fuller fibers than the Hareline Ostrich Herl. There will be patterns where the additional dense fullness of the fiber is preferable. For this reason, Hareline continues to market both.

Spirit River also applied a UV2 formula to their plumes to achieve an ultra violet appearance underwater. I have three colors available: Black, Brown, and Natural Grey.
