Tying Instructions
1. Slide the Tungsten bead onto the hook and secure the hook to the vise.
2. Attach the thread to the shank behind the bead. Trim off the tag.
3. Lay a thread foundation from behind the bead to the bend of the hook.
4. Clip a section of fur from the base of the material.
5. Comb out the loose fluff from the hair.
6. Measure the craft fur so that the tips extend about a half shank beyond the bend of the hook.
7. Place the craft fur on the top of the hook shank at the bend of the hook. The length of this tail should be about one full shank length plus another half shank length. Apply two tight thread wraps to secure lifting upwards on the thread.
8. Secure the tag end of the fur up the shank to the 3/4 mark of the shank and trim off the excess.
9. Wrap the thread back to the bend of the hook.
10. Attach a strand of UV Polar Chenille to the base of the tail.
11. Use your thumb and index finger to orient the mylar fibers back towards the tail and start touching wraps towards the bead.
12. Upon each turn, remove the twist in the strand and orient the fibers back towards the tail.
13. Once at the bead, secure with a couple of tight thread wraps and trim off the tag end.
14. Apply a few more thread wraps behind the bead to secure the chenille and pull a small amount of laser dub from the package for a belly to the pattern.
15. Secure the middle of the laser dub material to the top of the hook shank behind the bead.
16. Next place a few wraps of the thread behind the bead causing the laser dub material to sweep back towards the tail.
17. Turn the hook upside down by rotating the vise or reorienting the hook within the vise. This is the true orientation of the pattern when used. Pull out a number of strands of Ripple Ice Fiber from the package for the back of the pattern. Try to orient the fibers into a linear configuration.
18. Place the fibers on the bottom of the hook shank behind the bead and secure the middle of these fibers behind the bead with a few tight thread wraps.
19. Bring the half of the fibers that are over the eye back with the other fibers and secure with some additional wraps to lay them back.
20. Apply a whip finish.
21. And trim off the thread.
22. The Ripple Ice Fiber needs to be brushed back and trimmed.
23. Remove any of the unruly fibers trying to maintain a curvature sweep. The Ripple Ice Fibers should go back about the same distance as the Polar Ice Chenille.
24. The finished GD Spark Plug.

George Daniel
George Daniel came up with a streamer pattern he calls the Spark Plug Jig. Commercially, it is known as GD Spark Plug. It is a variation off Coffey’s Sparkle Minnow and Chuck Kraft’s Kreelex Jig. The GD Spark Plug is a good flashy minnow pattern that holds its profile well underwater. It is a go-to pattern for George for early morning bass fishing amongst rocks and boulders on a size 2 jig hook. However, George also ties this pattern on a size 4-6 for trout.
The GD Spark Plug is a simple baitfish pattern that fishes well stripped, swung, or below a bobber. It drops quickly and is simple to tie.
