1. Place a bead onto the hook. |
2. Attach the thread behind the bead and wrap a thread base to the bend of the hook. |
3. Tie in 6-10 strands of Pheasant Tail Fibers for a tail. Length of tail does not exceed the hook shank. |
4. Bring the thread back up to behind the bead and attach a wire rib. |
5. Secure the wire ribbing to the top of the hook shank, wrapping the wire down to the base of the tail. Attach a strand of holographic tinsel to the side of the hook shank and anchor to the tail tie-in position.
6. Create a tapered thread body that extends to the 2/3 position of the hook shank. |
7. Wrap the holographic tinsel forward with overlapping wraps to the 2/3 position and secure with thread wraps. |
8. Wrap the wire ribbing forward with evenly spaced wraps over the holographic tinsel to just past the 2/3 position of the shank. Tie down. |
9. Apply some UV Fly Finish Flow to the tinsel and ribbing. |
10. Cure the UV Fly Finish with a UV Lamp. |
11. Wrap the tag end of the pheasant tail fibers back from the bead to the 2/3 position. Apply dubbing to the thread. |
12. Dub a thorax that is about the same size as the bead. |
13. Bring the pheasant tail fibers over the top of the thorax for a wingcase and secure with thread wraps being the bead.
14. Separate half of the fibers so that they extend to each side of the thorax. Secure with thread wraps behind the bead. Trim the tag ends so that they extend no farther than the thorax. |
15. Whip Finish. |
16. Use a dubbing brush to tease out the thorax fibers. The finished Maholo Nymph. |
