Tungsten Yellow Sally
Tying Instructions
1. Mash the barb of the hook down with the vise and secure the hook. Attach the thread behind the eye.
2. Clip a pair of Goose Biots off the quill and oppose the pair so that they curve away from each other. Measure the tips of the biots so that they will be one third of the hook shank. Attach the biots to each side of the hook shank behind the eye of the hook securing biots to about 1/3 the shank length with tight wraps. Trim off the tag end of the biots.
3. Whip finish and remove the thread from the hook shank. Slide onto the hook a tungsten bead up to the eye.
4. Next, place two goose biots that are about half the hook shank in length at the bend of the hook, securing with tight wraps.
5. The biots should curve away from each other. Secure the tag end of the biots along the side of the shank up to the mid point and trim off the tags.
6. Attach a Turkey Biot by the tip in front of the tail tie-in position. Have the curve of the biot facing the bead.
7. Secure a strand of Ostrich herl at the same location as the Turkey Biot.
8. Wrap the Ostrich strand twice behind the Turkey Biot and then in front of the Turkey Biot proceeding to the mid-point of the shank and secure with tight thead wraps trimming off the tag end.
9. Wrap the turkey biot forward over the ostrich herl. The curve of the biot being forward will produce a ridging effect. Secure the tag end of the biot at the mid point of the hook shank with tight wraps and trim off the tag.
10. Place a rubber leg strand on the top of the hook shank at the mid point of the shank. The ends of the strand should sweep back in a V towards the tail.
11. Next, secure two more rubber leg strands about a beadwidth behind the bead in a criss cross.
12. Secure the strands with thread wraps.
13. Trim off a slip of Web wing somewhat larger than the width of the bead and trim a point on the slip that is place within the rear cavity of the bead. Secure with thread wraps. Lift the web wing slip and secure with thread wraps behind the slip securing the web wing firmly up against the bead.
14. Attach two strands of Ostrich Herl to the bottom of the hook shank at the mid point.
15. Secure a strand of Midge Vinyl ribbing to the bottom of the shank at midpoint as well.
16. Bring the thread to the mid-point of the hook shank and wrap the two strands of Ostrich herl around the thread. Wrap the herl towards the bead and secure with thread wraps behind the web wing slip. Trim off the tag ends of the herl.
17. Lay the web wing down over the top of the shank and secure the wingcase with the vinyl ribbing place one wrap behind the second pair of legs and one wrap in front of the second pair of legs. Secure the tag end of the ribbing behind the bead and trim off.
18. Trim off the web wing behind the first vinyl rib wrap. Trim the legs to suit. Whip Finish behind the bead.

Tungsten Yellow Sally
Designed by Solitude Fly Company. The Tungsten Yellow Sally is a great anatomical small stonefly pattern. It follows similar anatomical patterns by Morris and Mercer. A nice feature of this pattern is the use of Ostrich Herl for the thorax which perfectly represents the gill silhouette of a small stonefly. The rubber legs provide good movement for the fly and the Goose Biots provide the pattern with a proper antennae and tail.
