Description
Metz Hen Necks #1 are top quality — thin quills that don’t break, consistent coloring, barbules with a lovely sheen and uniform length. These feathers that are awesome for soft hackle wets, small woolly buggers, and loads of other patterns. The Metz Hen Necks #1 are known for a high number of small size hackles. These hackles fill a need for small wets but also work well for Catskill wings on dry flies. They are an excellent choice when tying spiders due to the wide, soft barbules that sweep back from the head.
Metz Hen Necks were developed in 1972 at Belleville, PA by Robert “Buck” Metz Jr. Metz Hackles were the first genetically engineered hackles for the fly tying industry. Buck Metz first learned of fly tying from the legendary George Harvey. Being a poultry farmer, Buck realized that the hackles needed to be longer and more supple. Metz started with Blue Andalusian stock that he received from Andy Miner. By the 1980’s Metz was an industry standard for high quality hackles and consistent colorations.
