Description
Middle Owens 1 covers the Owens River between Long Valley Dam (Lake Crowley) to the Middle Gorge Power Plant. Shows road access, GPS Long./Lat. and trails. Special Features are the Hatch Chart, Fishing Season and Regulations, Fish Identification, Catch & Release Procedures, Nymphing Rigs, and Stream Etiquette guidelines.
The Middle Owens 1 section has flows of 35-45 cfs as a tailwater from Crowley Lake. Flows can increase depending upon LADWP who control the outflow. Best access is at the trail above the Upper Powerhouse. Upstream of the Upper Powerhouse, the stream is thin. But below the powerhouse, the stream picks up considerably more water from the penstock that feeds the powerhouse. After June, this section can be very hot, with Nettles, and a few rattlesnakes. Best fished in the Fall through Spring.
