The Upper Kern 9 is the headwaters of the Kern River. The river picks up considerably more water at Junction Meadow and the fishing downstream of Junction Meadow contains Kern River Rainbows and an occasional Brown. Golden Hydrids have been introduced into the tributary creeks of Wright, Wallace, and Tyndall. Kern-Kaweah River: This area also has a distinct population of Kern River Rainbows that is genetically different from those found in the Kern River. A natural barrier exists at Rockslide Lake that keeps any ingress of other populations from the Kern River.
