The Grinch streamer pattern was created by Montana outfitter and guide, Kory Kober, around 2012. Kory owns a fly shop in Columbus, Montana known as the Otter’s Den.

The Grinch is tied within an Olive color scheme using Red flashabou along the sides of the tail. The tail is a little different from other Bugger patterns with the use of flared deer hair within the center of the tail. The placement of the deer hair allows the marabou to flow without binding upon itself. The Red/Olive Speckled Chenille is a primary element to this fly pattern as the specks of red within the body compliment the Red Flashabou around the tail for a good trigger mechanism.

Articulated Form

The Grinch is usually tied on a 3XL hook such as a TMC 5263 but you can produce an articulated form using Stinger type hooks, like the Gamakatsu B10S, to give the pattern a special action. Generally, the fly is weighted with a tungsten cyclop bead, 3/16″ for size 6 and 4mm for size 8.
