Access to the Convict Lake Backcountry can be by two main trails, one out of the inlet at Convict Lake with a climb of 2700′ and 6 strenuous miles, the other from a 4WD road that will take you up to Laurel Lakes. This jeep road is a turnoff from Sherwin Creek road about 2 miles off Hwy 395. Before reaching Laurel Lakes there is a trailhead that will take you on a 3 mile trek to Lake Genevieve with only a 700′ climb before descending into Lake Genevieve. From there you can easily access the rest of the lakes in the area.

Notes:

Convict Lake Backcountry, Lake DorothyThe Convict Lake Backcountry consists of about 8 lakes that drain into Convict Creek and onto Convict Lake. Some of these lakes did have Goldens but according to Dr. Curtis Milliron, DFG Fishery Biologist out of Bishop, most of the Goldens have vanished from this basin area since aerial planting was discontinued. Most of the lakes do, however, have a self-sustaining population of Brook Trout.
